Imam al-Shadhuli has reported to have said that none attains to a high degree of knowledge without having to submit to four afflictions:
[a] the injuries of enemies
[b] the blame of friends
[c] the attacks of the ignorant, and
[d] the jealousy of the learned.
True scholarship should not be intimidated by these concerns. What do you think a scholar should do?
