PASSING OF A GREAT SOUL

Madiba as he is affectionately called has expired and has begun his onward journey. The late Mandela has left an inalienable mark on the history of the 21st century by courageously forgiving the oppressors and befriending them in rebuilding a colorful country like South Africa. He, in the course of his eventful life of 95 years, has left great and valuable lessons for world leaders to work out their differences amicably without rushing into aggression. Despite his personal tragedies he kept his head high above pettiness and parochial interests. He was indeed a true leader of the people. He did not plot his way to leadership nor did he engineer and prostituted the system to bring his own children into politics. He kept to his promise of stepping down after leading the country for a full 5 year period. That was statesmanship. He had confidence in his people.

I only wish my own leader, the ailing Lee, will leave such a memorable legacy that will make Singaporeans feel proud of him and feel for him, particularly in his twilight years. It is time for him to seek forgiveness from people whom he had victimised and acknowledge the crimes he had done against them and their families. Giving him the benefit of doubt, he might not have directly involved in the victimization of people who were not his political nemeses. It must be his overzealous security pariahs who were colluding behind his back and misusing his trust to win some recognition for themselves. These are the pariahs who need to be hunted, exposed and brought to justice at the international court of justice. Certainly God is not blind. It is simply a question of time. No doubt the magnanimity displayed by Mandela is awe-inspiring that he made my leader looks so criminal.
